The go-to choice of platinum hit makers including Chris Lord-Alge, Andy Wallace, Randy Staub, David Bendeth and Bob Clearmountain, SSL consoles are famous for their aggressive, punchy, “in your face” sound. This console is widely regarded as the most famous mixing desk of all time. Part of the Waves SSL 4000 Collection, but also available to purchase individually, the SSL E-Channel plugin is an authentic emulation of the Solid State Logic 4000-series mixing console of the same name. Note: although pretty much all of the plugins I’m mentioning in this article are pretty old at this point, the fact that hundreds of chart-topping, A-tier engineers still use them religiously in mixes just goes to show how awesome they still are! 1. You’ve most definitely heard these being used on thousands of chart-topping records.

On that note, today I’d like to introduce you to 5 Waves plugins I’ve been using heavily on a daily basis for the last 10 years or so.

I don't even know that I could afford both, but if I spent the cash, would it be a combo that I could really go to town with and avoid other plug-in purchases for a while?Īnd I find the IK Pultec EQ works well in a lot of situations, except surgical applications and the lower-mid range.Waves Audio are without a doubt the most widely used and well known brand of professional audio software and plugins, and have been so for almost 30 years at this point.Īlongside developing the first audio plugin, the Waves Q10 Paragraphic EQ, and the hugely popular L1 Ultramaximizer/Limiter back in the 90s (which are both still being used in major studios all around the world to this day!), Waves remains at the forefront of technological innovation and authentic analog emulation with each new product they release. SSL bundle seems like it could make more sense but the CLA bundle just sounds soooo good. It's like saying, "should I get a new snare drum or bass drum?" You really can't compare the two, but I'm still trying to make the wise decision. If I HAD to chose, I chose the Waves SSL bundle, but that's because I can't live without the SSL channel and I do love the bus compressor on the 2bus.Yeah that is the difficulty of it. I believe it's a difficult scenario, since you can't really compare the 2 bundles. If I HAD to chose, I chose the Waves SSL bundle, but that's because I can't live without the SSL channel and I do love the bus compressor on the 2bus.ĭifficult, since the SSL bundle will give you the channelstrip and the bus compressor, 2 plugins I use in every mix, but on the other end, we have the CLA compressors, wich I believe are nothing less then amazing! I can't compare them with the real hardware, but I do love the sound, they really sound so fantastic! So what do you guys think? CLA compressors (possibly adding in The Glue to have solid buss compression) or SSL bundle? I know neither are end-all solutions, but what's the best route to go for now, considering I won't have cash for another bundle soon?Difficult, since the SSL bundle will give you the channelstrip and the bus compressor, 2 plugins I use in every mix, but on the other end, we have the CLA compressors, wich I believe are nothing less then amazing! Whereas I was originally ready to buy the Waves SSl bundle, I'm now restrategizing. The vocal and acoustic guitar compression just blew my mind on the CLA Waves video. But in terms of compression, I think I'll have a less varied palate to work with, which could make things difficult in certain applications. The Waves SSL on the other hand, would give me a unique and classic EQ.

My gut is saying that the CLA compressors collection could round out my mixes so that I have SOLID compression for everything in a rock/pop arrangement. I'm debating between the Waves SSL and Waves CLA classic compressors. The only EQ/Comp plugins I regularly use besides Logic stock plugs are IK Fairchild and IK Pultec emulations which I find to both be excellent, especially for the price.
